Entwined By Heater Dixon
5/5 Stars
Entwined was a really good book that I had picked up at our school book fair last spring, but just now had a chance to read. I really enjoy the old fairy tale, The Twelve Dancing Princesses, and this was an odd little retelling of it. Azalea was the eldest sister and would be queen when she married. She was one of my favorite characters, along with Keeper, because of his cruelty and because you always need a good villain, and Lord Bradford, because of his love for Azalea even when he found out she wasn't Bramble. These all were very strong characters. The King was also very well done. He was a suffering soul who thought he had lost the love of his daughters until it was almost too late. I found the plot amazing along with character growth and twists. This an amazing fairy tale retelling, even if you don't like fairy tales. It touches the heart, warms the soul, and never, ever, slows down.
The False Princess By Eilis O'Neal
5/5 stars
I don't even know where to start on this book. It was fast paced, full of amazing characters, and had so many twists and turns to the plot. It was a very good book and I regret not reading it sooner. Sinda was an outstanding character, very strong willed and defiant. She knew what she had to do and wanted to help the kingdom even after they had cast her out. The REAL Nalia, revealed later in the book was also a very good character. She was lost, confused, but still managed to keep her senses strong and never let her guard down. Keirnan was a funny character and his love for Sinda was strong. The plot was perfect and moved at a good pace, moving fast enough so I wasn't bored, and slow enough to get in detail.
Ranger's Apprentice #4: The Battle for Skandia By John Flanagan
4/5 stars
As the fourth book in the series, I found his good, but not my favorite. I liked how it was more action packed but I got lost several times through the plot line. Will was a very smart character in this book. Evelyn was enjoyed the most by me and I feared for her several times.
Septimus Heap #1: Magyk By Angie Sage
4/5 stars
I have been meaning to read this book for quite some time and just got around to doing so. It was a very enjoyable book but I found it boring at times. I found it was shocking at who Septimus Heap really was even though I had it figured out a few pages ahead. Jenna was a cute little character that I liked a lot. She was always upbeat no matter what happened and took all the changes to her life so well. She was a very strong little girl. Boy 412 was very secretive, I thought and grew throughout the story. I for sure enjoyed the children characters more than the adult nes except for Aunt Zelda. As for the plot, I found it childish and silly.
The Catswold Portal By Shirley Rousseau Murphy
5/5 stars
The Catswold Portal was much better than I expected it to be. It was fast paced and full of twists and turns. Melissa was an amazing character and very strong willed. She took everything on very well including learning about the lies she had been told her entire life, and surviving on her own. I found Braden very unlikable at first. I didn't understand how he could just forget about Anne and go off with some girl he had only recently met. I enjoyed Mag, an elderly woman who cared deeply for Melissa. She was very kind and even though she made mistakes she only did what was best for the ones she loved. Siddonie was a very confused woman as most villains are. I felt sorry for her but was always rooting for her end. The only drawback of this book for me was the small print which kept me from fully focusing on the story line. Luckily the story line was amazing so it kept me wrapped in. I would recommend this book to all fantasy lovers especially cat lovers. It has a very nice ending that will touch he heart.
Divergent By Veronica Roth
5/5 stars
Divergent was a very powerful book. It proved that selflessness and bravery really are the same thing. Tris was an amazingly powerful character and I found myself feeling for her. Four was a very mysterious character but I had him figured out pretty quickly as who he was. The government was corrupt (similar to our own.....) and didn't work properly. I think Amity wasn't looked upon enough so I hope to see more of them in Insurgent. Dauntless was a very strong faction but still had its issues in my opinion. All in all, this is a must read book. With an amazing plot full of twists and turns, and many tragedies, I couldn't put it down. Roth did an amazing job writing this book. I can't wait to get my hands on the second book.
Wow! Now I really want to read this! :0
ReplyDeleteYou should. I's really good.
ReplyDeleteIt'll probably be a while though. XD
ReplyDeleteI already put Insurgent on hold for nook checkout. I'm number seven on the list so it will probably be two months before I get it.
ReplyDeleteWow that takes a while! I'll put Divergent on my list now so we can read Insurgent together?
ReplyDeleteYou'll never guess what number I am on the library holds list for Divergent. 217!!!! I think you'll have to read Insurgent by yourself XD
ReplyDeleteI believe it! I was almost 100 in our small little system so I said skip it and got it for eight bucks at Walmart.
ReplyDeleteWow what?!
ReplyDeleteYeah. Now there are only five holds on Divergent and 42 on Insurgent. I wonder what would take longer. Me (being #7) getting it on my nook or waiting until labor day to borrow it from my uncle....
ReplyDeleteWhen's labor day? And I'm poofy because I'm reading. I'm on Chapter 2 of the CP
ReplyDeleteHalf way through September. I'll wait though.
ReplyDeleteCool. I reckon Divergent'll come in in October/November maybe?
ReplyDeleteWow! I hope I have Insurgent before then. I don't think i can wait that long. I would put it on hold as well.
ReplyDeleteHaha you can read them by yourself. No big dea. =]
ReplyDeleteI know. I'm just saying. You will want to read Insurgent right away and the waiting list will be huge.
ReplyDeleteHaha that sucks.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% with your False Princess review. I loved it too.
ReplyDeleteIt was really good and a fairly quick read. I did get Insurgent from my uncle early because of the whole thing with my grandpa.
